পুঁজিবাজার উন্নয়নে ১০ সদস্যের কমিটি গঠন

দেশের পুঁজিবাজারের টেকসই উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে ১০ সদস্যের একটি কমিটি গঠন করেছে অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয়। বিভিন্ন নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থার প্রতিনিধিদের এ কমিটির সদস্য করা হয়েছে।

 

অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয়ের আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান বিভাগ থেকে এ সংক্রান্ত একটি প্রজ্ঞাপন জারি করা হয়েছে। সোমবার (৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি) প্রজ্ঞাপনটিতে স্বাক্ষর করেন উপসচিব ফরিদা ইয়াসমিন।

আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান বিভাগের সচিবকে কমিটির সভাপতি করা হয়েছে। আর আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান বিভাগের যুগ্মসচিবকে (শেয়ারবাজার) সদস্য সচিব করা হয়েছে।

 

কমিটিতে সদস্য হিসেবে থাকবেন- জাতীয় রাজস্ব বোর্ডের প্রতিনিধি (ন্যূনতম কমিশনার), বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের প্রতিনিধি (ন্যূনতম পরিচালক), বাংলাদেশ সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশনের প্রতিনিধি (ন্যূনতম নির্বাহী পরিচালক), বীমা উন্নয়ন ও নিয়ন্ত্রণ কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রতিনিধি (ন্যূনতম নির্বাহী পরিচালক), মাইক্রোক্রেডিট রেগুলেটরি অথরিটির প্রতিনিধি (ন্যূনতম নির্বাহী পরিচালক), ফিন্যান্সিয়াল রিপোর্টিং কাউন্সিলের প্রতিনিধি (ন্যূনতম নির্বাহী পরিচালক), ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জের চেয়ারম্যান এবং চট্টগ্রাম স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জের চেয়ারম্যান।    https://orthosongbad.com

Intraco’s gas allocation cut to one-fifth over deal breach

The government has cut natural gas allocation for Intraco Refueling Station to one-fifth as the company failed to supply the committed volume of compressed natural gas (CNG) from Bhola.

As a result, the company will be able to compress up to 5.0 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas under its existing deal with the state-run Sundarban Gas Company Ltd (SGCL).

Intraco inked the 10-year deal with SGCL in May 2023 to supply gas from Bhola to the gas-starved industries in Dhaka and its adjacent areas.

Under the deal, it was supposed to compress up to 25 mmcfd of gas by October 2025 and supply it to consumers through cascade cylinders by trucks.

This was the first such agreement in the country to compress natural gas and supply it to users with the private sector’s help.

Intraco was supposed to supply around 5.0 mmcfd of gas to the gas-starved factories in Gazipur and its adjacent areas where piped gas pressure remains low.

It started supplying gas in late December 2023. After supplying around 1.0-1.5 mmcfd of gas, it suspended operations during August-October 2024.

The company resumed operations on October 21, but the CNG it supplied was far below the commitment made in the deal, said sources.

They said the company stopped supplying CNG after failing to provide bank guarantee of around Tk 110 million to the government by the August 18, 2024 deadline.

Before resuming operations, it, however, provided the bank guarantee, sources added.

The company allegedly did not invest sufficient money to supply the committed volume of gas.

Intraco clinched the deal to supply gas from Bhola, a bay island district some 282 kilometres off the capital, under the controversial and currently-revoked Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provision) Act 2010 (Amended in 2021) bypassing tender.

Sources said state-run Petrobangla had picked only Intraco to carry out the job, although around a dozen more companies were willing to execute the project at lower costs.

The industry owners have to purchase Intraco gas at the government-fixed rate of Tk 47.60 per cubic metre, which is 58.66 per cent higher than the usual tariff of Tk 30 per cubic metre for industrial consumers.

Intraco enjoys a margin of around Tk 30.50 per cubic metre as it gets Bhola gas from the government at Tk 17 per cubic metre.

The company, however, bears all the related costs, including conversion into CNG and transportation.

Intraco has the authority to select consumers from the state-run Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution’s franchise areas separately to supply gas and collect bills.

The Shahbazpur, Bhola, and Ilisha gas fields in Bhola have a combined production capacity of around 200mmcfd.

However, production is limited to around 80mmcfd due to sluggish demand in the area, causing around 120mmcfd to remain unused.

Beximco lays off another 8,000 workers

Embattled Beximco Limited has announced another round of layoffs citing a lack of work orders, a decision that affects nearly 8,000 workers across five manufacturing units in its industrial park in Gazipur.

The layoffs at Beximco Yarn-2, Textiles, Denim, Knitting and RR Washing will become effective today, according to layoff notices issued by the Beximco authorities yesterday.

The workers will be paid salaries as per the labour law: half of their basic salaries and some other benefits during the 45-day layoff period, the Beximco authorities said.

Labour Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman told The Daily Star that the laid-off workers will be placed in various factories after Beximco settles their dues.

“We are not receiving any work orders from local manufacturers, leaving us with no choice but to declare layoffs,” said Osman Kaiser Chowdhury, managing director of Beximco Limited.

Earlier on December 15 last year, the labour and employment ministry advised Beximco, whose vice-chairman Salman F Rahman has been in jail since August 13 last year, to proceed with the layoffs as the government could no longer provide indefinite financial assistance, he said.

“We requested that four factories under Beximco Limited remain open to meet work orders from local manufacturers. But those orders never materialised.”

Workers, already facing uncertainty over their salaries, grew increasingly anxious, prompting the company to take this drastic measure, Chowdhury added.

The latest development comes a week after the interim government announced that it would sell shares of Beximco Group’s two running and profitable companies — Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Shinepukur Ceramics — to pay the salaries of the conglomerate’s laid-off employees.

The conglomerate, which landed in hot water following the ouster of the Awami League-led government on August 5 last year, has more than Tk 40,000 crore in loans, including Tk 28,544 crore taken by its 32 textile and apparel subsidiaries.

Of those 32 factories, 16 exist only on paper. But the factories were used as collateral to take loans, said Labour and Employment Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain at a press briefing on January 28.

A large amount of the loans have been classified.

Beximco Group had previously laid off nearly 32,000 workers across 15 of its apparel units due to a persistent shortage of orders in its export-oriented garment and textile factories in Gazipur.     https://www.thedailystar.net/business/news/beximco-lays-another-8000-workers-3816111

Finance adviser seeks 3 months to reduce inflation

Further steps would be taken to stabilise the prices of essential commodities during Ramadan, said Salehuddin Ahmed

It will take another two to three months for inflation to decrease as government measures take effect, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said today (4 February).

Acknowledging that high inflation is causing difficulties, he said several initiatives have already been implemented to address the issue.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchases at the Secretariat.

The adviser also stated that further steps would be taken to stabilise the prices of essential commodities during Ramadan.

The government expects these measures to help bring average inflation down to 6%–7% by June.

According to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), monthly overall inflation has remained above 9% for over two and a half years.

In December, overall inflation stood at 10.89%, while food inflation was recorded at 12.92%. Food inflation had peaked at 14.10% in July.    https://www.tbsnews.net

Escalating costs eat into top-listed steel, cement makers’ profits

Leading companies in the rod and cement sectors have reported a decline in profits due to rising production costs. 

Factors such as increased raw material prices, energy expenses, higher taxes, and sluggish demand have contributed to the financial strain, impacting their bottom line in the October-December quarter of the current fiscal year, according to industry insiders.

Although most of these companies experienced higher sales revenue – primarily driven by product price hikes in response to rising production costs – the increase was insufficient to boost profits due to weak demand in the construction sector, insiders added.

Among the top-listed steel manufacturers, BSRM Limited recorded an 8% increase in revenue during the second quarter of FY25. However, its net profit declined by 33% year-on-year. 

Similarly, BSRM Steels, an associate firm of the leading steelmaker, saw an 18% jump in revenue, but its profit fell by 17%.

Another major player, GPH Ispat, reported a slight increase in revenue, yet experienced a 23% drop in profit when the cement sector faced significant challenges. 

 

Crown Cement reported a revenue growth of around 13%, but its net profit plummeted by 50%. Meanwhile, Premier Cement experienced a sharp decline in both revenue and profit.

Meanwhile, investors observed a downward trend in these stocks, with share prices nearing their lowest levels in a year on the Dhaka Stock Exchange. 

 

Market analysts attribute this decline to uncertainty in the construction sector, as government projects have slowed following the recent political transition. 

Additionally, ongoing energy supply shortages and high debt costs have further strained the industry. As a result, investors are hesitant to hold these shares amid the current challenges, they added.

Steel manufacturers said despite raising product prices, the selling prices of steel rods remain insufficient to drive profit growth, leading to a shrinking profit margin. 

 

According to them, government construction projects account for 70% of the country’s total steel demand, while individual consumers make up the remaining 30%. However, the slowdown in government projects has prevented steelmakers from achieving their targeted growth.

Additionally, challenges in opening letters of credit and an inadequate energy supply have further pressured the industry, driving up production costs even more. 

A senior officer at Premier Cement told The Business Standard the company’s cement sales declined by 18%, while net profit plummeted by 89% year-on-year in the October-December quarter.

According to him, the drop in sales was driven by two key factors: the stalling of several major infrastructure projects and a leadership vacuum from the city corporation to the union level, which has disrupted various construction activities. As a result, instead of achieving growth, the cement business has faced a downturn.

Meanwhile, Crown Cement, in its financial statement, attributed its profit decline to higher depreciation and finance costs related to its newly installed production unit, as well as a high effective tax rate due to the minimum tax regulation.

The company further stated that it raised the price of cement per bag by 0.63%. Additionally, several strategic initiatives helped boost sales revenue despite the ongoing challenges in the country’s construction sector.    https://www.tbsnews.net

টিআইএন থাকার পরও যারা দীর্ঘদিন রিটার্ন দাখিল করছেন না, তারা শিগগিরই নোটিশ পাবেন বলে জানিয়েছেন জাতীয় রাজস্ব বোর্ডের (এনবিআর) চেয়ারম্যান মো. আবদুর রহমান খান। তিনি বলেন, যারা রিটার্ন দাখিল করছেন না, তাদের কোনো সমস্যায়ও পড়তে হচ্ছে না। তাই আমরা এ বিষয়ে এনফোর্সমেন্টে যাচ্ছি।

রোববার (২ ফেব্রুয়ারি) রাজধানীর প্যান প্যাসিফিক সোনারগাঁয়ে বণিক বার্তা আয়োজিত পলিসি কনক্লেভে এসব কথা বলেন তিনি। ‘খাদ্যপণ্যের যৌক্তিক দাম: বাজার তত্ত্বাবধানের কৌশল অনুসন্ধান’ শিরোনামে এ পলিসি কনক্লেভ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

কানাডা, মেক্সিকো ও চীনের ওপর শুল্ক আরোপ করে ট্রাম্পের নির্বাহী আদেশ, বিশ্বজুড়ে মন্দার আশঙ্কা

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে কানাডা ও মেক্সিকোর পণ্য আমদানিতে ২৫ শতাংশ করে ও চীনের পণ্যে বর্তমান হারের অতিরিক্ত ১০ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করার কথা ঘোষণা করেছেন মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প। গতকাল শনিবার তাঁর দেওয়া এ–সংক্রান্ত নির্দেশ আগামী মঙ্গলবার থেকে কার্যকর হবে।

প্রেসিডেন্ট ট্রাম্পের এ নির্দেশে নতুন এক বাণিজ্যযুদ্ধ শুরুর ঝুঁকি তৈরি হওয়া এবং বৈশ্বিক প্রবৃদ্ধিতে মন্দাভাব ও মূল্যস্ফীতি বেড়ে যাওয়ার আশঙ্কা প্রকাশ করেছেন অর্থনীতিবিদেরা।

ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প আগেই বলেছিলেন, তিনি প্রেসিডেন্ট হিসেবে দায়িত্ব নিয়েই চীন, কানাডা ও মেক্সিকোর ওপর নতুন শুল্ক আরোপ করবেন। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অবৈধ অভিবাসন ও মাদক পাচার ঠেকাতে এমন পদক্ষেপ নেবেন তিনি।

কানাডা ও মেক্সিকোকে নিয়ে ইতিপূর্বে ট্রাম্প তাঁর মালিকানাধীন সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যম ট্রুথ সোশ্যালে দেওয়া একই রকমের বক্তব্য–সংবলিত এক পোস্টে লিখেছেন, দেশ দুটি যতক্ষণ না মাদকের বিরুদ্ধে বিশেষ করে ফেন্টানিল ও অবৈধভাবে সীমান্ত অতিক্রমকারী অভিবাসীদের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নেয়, ততক্ষণ দেশ দুটির ওপর শুল্ক বহাল থাকবে।

প্রসঙ্গত, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের শীর্ষ বাণিজ্য অংশীদারদের অন্যতম চীন, কানাডা ও মেক্সিকো। গত বছর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আমদানি পণ্যের ৪০ শতাংশ গেছে এ তিন দেশ থেকে। তিনটি দেশ থেকেই পণ্য আমদানিতে শুল্ক আরোপের ফলে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারেও পণ্যের দাম বেড়ে যেতে পারে। তা ছাড়া, ট্রাম্পের এ পদক্ষেপ বিশ্বজুড়ে অর্থনৈতিক মন্দা ও ক্রমবর্ধমান মূল্যস্ফীতির ওপরও নেতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলতে পারে।

ট্রাম্পের পদক্ষেপ ‘অ্যাভোকাডো থেকে শুরু করে অটোমোবাইল পর্যন্ত’ সব কিছুর দাম বেড়ে যাওয়ার ঝুঁকি তৈরি করেছে।

জ্বালানি তেল পরিশোধক প্রতিষ্ঠান ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মধ্য–পশ্চিমাঞ্চলীয় অঙ্গরাজ্যগুলোর কর্তৃপক্ষের উদ্বেগে সাড়া দিয়ে ট্রাম্প কানাডার তেলজাত পণ্যে ১০ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করেছেন। যদিও অন্যান্য পণ্যে এ হার ২৫ শতাংশ করেছেন। তবে মেক্সিকোর জ্বালানি পণ্যে পূর্ণ ২৫ শতাংশ শুল্কই বহাল থাকবে।

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পরিসংখ্যান ব্যুরোর তথ্য অনুযায়ী, ২০২৩ সালে দেশটি কানাডা থেকে প্রায় ১০০ বিলিয়ন বা ১০ হাজার কোটি ডলারের অপরিশোধিত তেল আমদানি করে। এটি ছিল কানাডা থেকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আমদানি করা পণ্যের প্রায় এক–চতুর্থাংশ।
এএফপির খবরে বলা হয়, ট্রাম্পের পদক্ষেপে কানাডার প্রধানমন্ত্রী জাস্টিন ট্রুডো ও মেক্সিকোর প্রেসিডেন্ট ক্লদিয়া শেনবাউম পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার ঘোষণা দিয়েছেন। এ ছাড়া চীনের তরফেও একই ধরনের ঘোষণা এসেছে।

জাস্টিন ট্রুডো বলেছেন, ১৫৫ বিলিয়ন (১৫ হাজার ৫০০ কোটি) ডলার মূল্যের মার্কিন পণ্যের ওপর ২৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করবে তাঁর সরকার। মঙ্গলবার থেকে ৩০ বিলিয়ন ডলার মূল্যের মার্কিন পণ্যের ওপর এ শুল্ক কার্যকর হবে। বাকি শুল্ক আরোপ কার্যকর হবে ২১ দিনের মধ্যে।

এ ছাড়া ক্লদিয়া শেনবাউম গতকালই ঘোষণা দেন, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পদক্ষেপের পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা হিসেবে মার্কিন পণ্যে শুল্ক আরোপ করাসহ অন্যান্য পদক্ষেপ নেবে তাঁর সরকার।
অন্যদিকে চীনের বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয় বলেছে, তারা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিরুদ্ধে অনুরূপ পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেবে।

ট্রাম্পের শুল্কারোপ নিয়ে হোয়াইট হাউসের নথিপত্রে বলা হয়েছে, ‘সংকট না কমা পর্যন্ত’ শুল্ক বহাল থাকবে। কিন্তু শুল্কারোপের স্থগিতাদেশ পেতে দেশ তিনটিকে কী করতে হবে সে বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত কিছু উল্লেখ করেনি হোয়াইট হাউস।

ট্রাম্পের এ পদক্ষেপ ঘোষণার আগেই খ্যাতিমান অর্থনীতিবিদেরা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সঙ্গে দেশটির শীর্ষ বাণিজ্য অংশীদারদের নতুন বাণিজ্যযুদ্ধ শুরু হওয়ার এবং যুক্তরাষ্ট্রসহ সারা বিশ্বে প্রবৃদ্ধি কমা ও পণ্যের দাম বাড়ার সতর্কবার্তা দিয়েছিলেন।

ট্রাম্পের শুল্ক আরোপের খবরকে স্বাগত জানিয়েছেন রিপাবলিকানরা। বিপরীতে ডেমোক্র্যাটরা পণ্যমূল্যের ওপর এ পদক্ষেপের প্রভাব নিয়ে কঠোর সতর্কবাণী উচ্চারণ করেছেন।

Square Pharmaceuticals sees 13% profit growth in Jul-De

Square Pharmaceuticals, the flagship company of Square Group, has reported a 12.89% growth in its net profit and a 6% increase in net revenue for the first half of the current fiscal year, which ended in December 2024, according to its financial report.

During the July-December period, the net revenue of the market leader in the pharmaceutical industry increased to Tk3,771.77 crore, while its profit rose to Tk1,269.64 crore, compared to Tk3,555.25 crore and Tk1,124.59 crore, respectively, during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

However, its profit from operations declined by 3.51% to Tk1,099 crore, while income from investments increased by 43% over the same period of the previous fiscal year to Tk305.61 crore.

At the end of December, the pharmaceutical firm had Tk983 crore invested in stocks and Tk753 crore in long-term investments, according to its half-yearly report.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter during the October to December, its net revenue grew by 12.55% to Tk1,997 crore, an up from Tk1,774 crore in the same time of the previous fiscal year.

While its profit in the Q2 grew by 25.89% to Tk660 crore, which was Tk524.52 crore in the October-December quarter of FY24.

In the first quarter of FY25 during the July to September quarter, Square Pharmaceuticals sees revenue decline for the first time.

On that quarter, its revenue in Q1 declined to Tk1,774 crore, a slight drop from Tk1,781 crore in the same quarter of FY24.

On that time Zahangir Alam, chief financial officer of Square Pharma, told TBS that this is the first time that we experienced a decline in revenue.

The decline is owed to multiple factors, including the turmoil centring on the July-August movement, the ongoing labour unrest and unprecedented flooding, he added.

Founded in 1958 as a private firm, Square Pharmaceuticals went public in 1991 and is listed on both the Dhaka Stock Exchange and on the Chittagong Stock Exchange.

বার্জার পেইন্টসের ৯ মাসের আয় প্রথমবারের মতো ২,০০০ কোটি টাকা ছাড়াল

এপ্রিল থেকে শুরু হওয়া কোম্পানির হিসাববছরের প্রথম ৯ মাসে বার্জার পেইন্টস বাংলাদেশ লিমিটেডের আয় প্রথমবারের মতো ২ হাজার কোটি টাকা ছাড়িয়েছে।

গতকাল এক স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জ ফাইলিংয়ে বহুজাতিক এই প্রতিষ্ঠানটি জানায়, এপ্রিল-ডিসেম্বর সময়ে তাদের মোট আয় দাঁড়িয়েছে ২ হাজার ৫২ কোটি টাকা, যা আগের বছরের তুলনায় ৮ শতাংশ বেশি।

একইসঙ্গে কোম্পানিটির নিট মুনাফাও ৮ শতাংশ বেড়ে ২৪৭ কোটি টাকা এবং শেয়ারপ্রতি আয় (ইপিএস) বেড়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে ৫৩.২৬ টাকা।

এদিকে বহুজাতিক কোম্পানিটি জাতীয় বিশেষ অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চলে তৃতীয় কারখানা নির্মাণের জন্য ৩০৩ কোটি টাকা সংগ্রহে রাইটস অফার ইস্যুর প্রক্রিয়ায় রয়েছে।

বার্জারের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, কোম্পানিটি শেয়ারপ্রতি ১ হাজার ১১০ টাকা দরে ২৭.২৮ লাখ শেয়ার ইস্যু করবে। এর মধ্যে ১ হাজার ১০০ টাকা প্রিমিয়াম রয়েছে। এই প্রস্তাব ইতোমধ্যে ২৫ জানুয়ারি অনুষ্ঠিত বার্ষিক সাধারণ সভায় (এজিএম) শেয়ারহোল্ডারদের অনুমোদন পেয়েছে।

মূলত পুঁজিবাজারে ফ্রি-ফ্লোট শেয়ার বাড়ানোর বাধ্যবাধকতার কারণে কোম্পানিটির স্পন্সর ও পরিচালকরা রাইটস অফারে অংশ নেবেন না।

এক ঘোষণায় বার্জার জানিয়েছে, ১০ শতাংশ ফ্রি-ফ্লোট শেয়ার রাখার বাধ্যবাধকতা পূরণে বার্জারের প্রধান শেয়ারহোল্ডার জেঅ্যান্ডএন ইনভেস্টমেন্টস (এশিয়া) লিমিটেড—যারা ৯৫ শতাংশ শেয়ারধারী—রাইটস অফারে অংশ নেবে না।

কোম্পানিটির একজন সিনিয়র কর্মকর্তা টিবিএসকে জানান, রাইটস ইস্যুর নিয়ম অনুযায়ী জেঅ্যান্ডএন ইনভেস্টমেন্টসে ২৩.১৮ লাখ শেয়ার পাওয়ার যোগ্যতা থাকলেও এই শেয়ার সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য বরাদ্দ করা হবে। এতে সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারীরা প্রতি শেয়ারের বিপরীতে একটি করে রাইটস শেয়ার পাবেন।

বাকি রাইটস শেয়ার বার্জারের কর্মীদের জন্য বরাদ্দ থাকবে।

এর আগে ২০২৩ সালের ডিসেম্বরে বাংলাদেশ সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশন (বিএসইসি) বার্জার পেইন্টসকে তাদের স্পন্সর, পরিচালক এবং কোম্পানির ৫ শতাংশ বা তার বেশি শেয়ারধারীদের রাইটস শেয়ার ইস্যু করা থেকে অব্যাহতি দেয়।

২০২২ সালের অক্টোবরে কোম্পানিটি স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জের মাধ্যমে ঘোষণা দেয়, তারা প্রাথমিকভাবে ৪৮০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগে তৃতীয় কারখানা নির্মাণের পরিকল্পনা করছে, যা ২০২৫ সালের এপ্রিলের মধ্যে সম্পন্ন হবে।

তবে পরবর্তীতে প্রকল্প ব্যয় সংশোধন করে ৮১৩ কোটি টাকা নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে। তবে উৎপাদন শুরুর তারিখ এখনও ঘোষণা করা হয়নি।

একজন সিনিয়র কর্মকর্তা জানিয়েছেন, কোম্পানিটি অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চলে একটি ‘পরিবেশবান্ধব’ কারখানা স্থাপনের পরিকল্পনা করছে। প্রয়োজনীয় অর্থ সংগ্রহ হলেই নির্মাণকাজ শুরু হবে।

তৃতীয় কারখানায় বার্জার পেইন্টস ডেকোরেটিভ পেইন্ট, ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল পেইন্ট, মেরিন কোটিংস, উড কোটিংস, কনস্ট্রাকশন কেমিক্যালস, অ্যাডহেসিভস ও অটোমোটিভ পেইন্ট উৎপাদন করবে—যার সবকটিরই বাজারে চাহিদা বাড়ছে।    https://www.tbsnews.net

Envoy Textiles’ net profit grows by 147%

Envoy Textiles, the world’s first LEED Platinum certified denim manufacturer, has reported a 147% increase in net profit, reaching Tk60 crore in the first half of the current fiscal year.

Its revenue grew by 30% during the July-December 2024 period, according to the publicly listed company’s price-sensitive information (PSI). The textile firm released its half-yearly financial report following a board of directors’ meeting on Wednesday.

During the July-December 2024 period, Envoy Textiles’ revenue rose to Tk898.57 crore, compared to Tk690.95 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Talking to The Business Standard, Envoy Textiles Mills Ltd Managing Director Tanvir Ahmed said, “The business growth has been driven by full-capacity orders from our buyers, as the international market response has been very positive. Additionally, we have positioned ourselves well with our customers through product quality, product diversification, and excellent customer service.”

“We have two offshore marketing offices, which help us increase our market share and secure better prices. Despite the downward trend in cotton prices, we have maintained our pricing due to the superior quality of our products and strong, long-term relationships with our customers. The recent hikes in gas prices, wages, and interest rates have slightly impacted our business; otherwise, growth would have been higher,” he said.

The denim miller has already booked full-capacity orders until March and has forecasts extending to mid-April. Typically, denim mills can only book their capacity 15 days in advance.

Company Secretary M Saiful Islam Chowdhury said, “To improve the textile mill’s efficiency, the company is investing in BMRE [Balancing, Modernisation, Rehabilitation, and Expansion], particularly by introducing a new generator, which will help enhance our business in the future.”

“However, the textile mill faced legal disputes among its board members over the last three years. Some board members attempted to damage the company’s reputation, which negatively affected business growth. After resolving these disputes, the board management team is now fully focused on increasing the company’s business,” he added.

 

Kutubuddin Ahmed, chairman of Envoy Textiles, told The Business Standard that the textile mill operated at nearly full capacity in the first half of the current fiscal year. He added that most buyers are increasing their orders, suggesting that Envoy Textiles is poised for a better performance this year.

“To add more value, the company is also planning to install a new recycling plant, considering that many brands have set goals to increase the use of recycled yarn by 2030,” he said.

 

The mill can produce 45 lakh yards of denim fabric per month.

On Wednesday, its share price closed at Tk43.40 per share at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), a 1.36% decline from the previous trading session.

Envoy Textiles recommended a 20% cash dividend for its shareholders for fiscal 2023-24. The company had paid its shareholders a 15% cash dividend for FY23.    https://www.tbsnews.net
