Robi Axiata, the country’s second-largest telecom operator, recorded higher revenue and profit in the first nine months of this year, while rival Grameenphone (GP), the country’s largest operator, saw both indicators decline.
During the January-September period, Robi’s revenue rose around 7 percent year-on-year, while GP’s fell 1.6 percent, according to the companies’ financial results.
The trend was similar for profits. Robi’s profit grew 19 percent, while GP’s declined 4 percent. Despite the growth, Robi’s profit margin remained half that of GP. Robi’s margin stood at 9 percent in the first nine months of the year, compared with GP’s 18 percent.
