The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), in an inspection, has found that the Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills (RSRM) Limited factory is currently non-operational. 

A DSE team, which visited the company’s manufacturing facility in Chattogram yesterday(19 July), reported that operations were completely shut down.

Despite the disclosure, RSRM shares surged by 7.62% yesterday (19 July), closing at Tk11.30 on the DSE. The company continues to trade under the Z category, having failed to publish any financial statements since the 2020-21 fiscal year.

RSRM’s parent entity, Ratanpur Group, was once one of Chattogram’s largest industrial conglomerates, founded in 1984 and employing around 800 people in production until 2019. At its peak, the group’s annual turnover stood at approximately Tk700 crore.

However, in December 2020, two of its steel plants ceased operations due to unpaid electricity bills and a lack of working capital. The company had earlier assured the DSE that it would resume production from 4 October 2021, but operations never restarted.

The Ratanpur Group is currently burdened with approximately Tk2,500 crore in defaulted loans from ten banks, resulting in 30 cases filed against it. Key individuals named in these lawsuits include Managing Director Maksudur Rahman, Chairman Shamsun Nahar Rahman, Yunus Bhaiya (the MD’s brother), sons Mizanur Rahman and Marzanur Rahman, and Md Alauddin, chairman of Modern Steel Mills Limited.

These challenges have led to shareholders being deprived of returns for years, with the company failing to declare any dividends. In an attempt to revive factory operations, MD Maksudur Rahman, along with his son Mizanur Rahman and wife Shamsun Nahar Rahman, sold their entire holdings in South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank (SBAC) in January 2023.

In October 2023, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) appointed four independent directors to RSRM. However, a BSEC official said these newly appointed directors have been unable to assume their roles due to internal complications within the company.

RSRM initially raised Tk100 crore from the capital market in 2014 by issuing 2.5 crore shares at Tk40 each, which included a Tk30 premium. According to the April 2024 shareholding report, the company’s sponsors and directors hold 29.93% of shares, falling short of the regulatory requirement of 30%. Institutional investors hold 34.08%, with the remaining 35.99% held by the general public.

The trustee of two close-ended mutual funds proposed converting them into open-ended funds upon maturity in December this year.

The funds — SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund and Vanguard AML BD Finance Mutual Fund One — overseen by Strategic Equity Management and Vanguard Asset Management will complete 10 years on December 23.

Asset managers say unitholders will be benefited in both ways – conversion or liquidation.

However, conversion is subject to unitholders’ approval and regulatory consent, according to the stock exchange filing on Sunday.

Bangladesh General Insurance, trustee of both funds, said asset managers had requested necessary measures to facilitate the conversion.

As per the latest amended mutual funds rules, close-ended funds must be redeemed on reaching maturity; no tenure extension will be allowed, a corrective move to change course from past mistakes.

However, such funds may get converted into open-ended funds if three-fourth unitholders, based on the percentage of ownership, give approval.

Asset managers will bear all expenses associated with the conversion process, as per the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission directive in this regard.

Mir Ariful Islam, managing director of Sandhani Asset Management, explained that redemption would allow unitholders to recover investments at the current net asset value (NAV) of the funds, a relief for them especially when units of listed mutual funds are trading at heavy discounts in the secondary market.

On the other hand, if these funds are converted into open-ended securities, unitholders will have options to keep investments or exit from the portfolios, he said.

Unitholders in that case may surrender open-ended fund units and the asset manager concerned will be obligated to liquidate the underlying assets of the surrendered units and pay cash back to investors at the current net asset value which is usually higher than the market price, he added.

Investors, who invested in 2016 and have held on to their holdings until redemption, will, however, have insignificant return on investments.

The fund distributed 2.0 per cent to 15 per cent cash dividends between 2016 and 2023. The net asset value (NAV) per unit is Tk 9.02 at present, which is 9.8 per cent lower than the face value.

Considering the dividend income and NAV, unitholder’s average annual return comes around 5.28 per cent until 2023, much lower than inflation during the period.

The fund distributed 2.5 per cent to 15 per cent cash dividends between 2016 and 2023. The net asset value (NAV) per unit is Tk 9.95 at present, slightly lower than the face value.

If the dividend income and NAV are taken into account, unitholder’s average annual return would be 5.15 per cent in the nine years until 2023.

If converted, these MFs will be the third and fourth close-ended funds to be converted into open-ended funds.

The trustee is yet to fix the unit holders’ meeting date. However, the trade suspension date was set on October 22 regarding unit holders’ meeting.

A close-ended fund is a collective investment scheme that pools money from a number of investors, usually for a decade, in order to be reinvested into stocks, bonds and other assets. Depending on the profits earned, investors are paid back in dividends.

Open-ended mutual funds are not listed in the stock market, but one can buy them from a fund manager’s office on the basis of its net asset value. Investors can sell off fund units at any time at prices based on its current net asset value.

বাংলাদেশ ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মধ্যে আজ রোববার একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক (MoU) সই হয়েছে, যার মূল লক্ষ্য হলো দুই দেশের মধ্যকার বাণিজ্য ব্যবধান কমিয়ে আনা এবং দ্বিপক্ষীয় অর্থনৈতিক সম্পর্ক জোরদার করা।

এই সমঝোতা স্মারকের আওতায় বাংলাদেশ প্রথমবারের মতো যুক্তরাষ্ট্র থেকে সরকারি পর্যায়ে গম আমদানি করতে যাচ্ছে। এত দিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র থেকে গম আসত শুধু সাহায্য হিসেবে। এবার বাংলাদেশ সরকার নিজ উদ্যোগে প্রাথমিকভাবে ২ লাখ ২০ হাজার টন গম কিনবে, যা দুই কনসাইনমেন্টে দেশে আসবে।

রবিবার (২০ জুলাই) বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের বিভিন্ন সূত্রের বরাতে সংবাদ মাধ্যমে এ তথ্য উঠে এসেছে।

বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয় জানিয়েছে, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের রপ্তানি প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর সঙ্গে ধারাবাহিক বৈঠকের মাধ্যমে এমন উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। এর অংশ হিসেবে শেভরন, ইউএস হুইট অ্যাসোসিয়েটস, ইউএস সয়াবিন এক্সপোর্ট কাউন্সিল ও কটন অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সঙ্গে আলোচনায় বসেছে বাংলাদেশ।

চুক্তি সই অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন খাদ্য অধিদপ্তরের প্রতিনিধি ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের কৃষি বিভাগের (USDA) সংশ্লিষ্ট সংস্থার উচ্চপদস্থ কর্মকর্তা।

বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা শেখ বশিরউদ্দীন জানিয়েছেন, এই উদ্যোগের তিনটি লক্ষ্য রয়েছে—বাংলাদেশ-যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বাণিজ্য সম্প্রসারণ, বাংলাদেশের স্বার্থে আন্তর্জাতিক জনমত তৈরি এবং যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাণিজ্য ঘাটতি কমানো।

তিনি আরও জানান, ভবিষ্যতে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র থেকে তুলা, ভোজ্যতেল, এলএনজি এবং উড়োজাহাজের যন্ত্রাংশ আমদানির পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে।

তবে অর্থনীতিবিদরা বলছেন, ডলার সংকটের সময়ে উচ্চ দামে গম আমদানির সিদ্ধান্ত ও অতিরিক্ত পণ্যে আগ্রহ দেখানোর আগে প্রয়োজন গভীর বিশ্লেষণ ও কৌশলগত চিন্তা। চুক্তির মেয়াদ ও শর্তাবলী বাংলাদেশের জন্য দীর্ঘমেয়াদে কতটা লাভজনক হবে, সেটিও বিবেচনায় আনা জরুরি।

বাণিজ্যঘাটতি কমাতে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের সমঝোতা স্মারক সই আজ

২০২১ সালের শেষদিকে পুঁজিবাজার তালিকাভুক্ত হয়েছিল ওষুধ ও রসায়ন খাতের কোম্পানি একমি পেস্টিসাইড লিমিটেড। তখন একাধিক ভুল তথ্য দিয়ে তালিকাভুক্ত হয়েছিল কোম্পানিটি। তালিকাভুক্তির পর প্রাথমিক গণপ্রস্তাবের (আইপিও) অর্রে ভিন্ন খাতে ব্যবহার, নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে আইপিও র্অ ব্যবহারে ব্যর্থতা, পরিচালকরে স্বার্থসংশ্লিষ্ট প্রতিষ্ঠানে ব্যবসা করা, এক আইপি দিয়ে শতাধিক বিনিয়োগকারীর উপস্থিতি দেখানো, বেনামে অর্থ স্থানান্তর, হিসাব জালিয়াতি, ভুয়া ব্যাংক হিসাব, সঠিক সময়ে লভ্যাংশ ও কারসাজিতে অভিযুক্ত ব্যক্তিকে ভবন নির্মাণের কাজ দেয়ার মতো নানা অনিয়মের প্রমাণ পায় বাংলাশে সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশন (বিএসইসি)। তবে রহস্যজনক কারণে একমি পেস্টিসাইডের উদ্যোক্তা পরিচালকদের শাস্তির আওতায় আনা হয়নি।

বিএসইসি সূত্রে জানা যায়, সংস্থাটি ২০২১ সালের ১৯ জুলাই প্রাথমিক গণপ্রস্তাবের (আইপিও) মাধ্যমে পুঁজিবাজার থেকে ৩০ কোটি টাকা তোলার অনুমোদন দেয় একমি পেস্টিসাইডসকে। অভিহিত মূল্য ১০ টাকা ামে তিন কোটি সাধারণ শেয়ার ইস্যুর মাধ্যমে পুঁজিবাজার থেকে এই পরিমাণ টাকা তোলার সুযোগ পায় কোম্পানিটি। তবে এই টাকা সঠিক সময়ে ব্যবহারে ব্যর্থ হয় উদ্যোক্তারা। গত কয়েক বছরের একমি পেস্টিসাইডের নানা অনিয়ম ও অর্থ অপব্যবহার নিয়ে তদন্তে নামে বিএসইসি। গত বছরের ১ সেপ্টেম্বর কমিশন তদন্ত কমিটি গঠন করে। এ কমিটি চলতি বছরের ১৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন কমিশনে জমা দেন। এ তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন বলা হয়, এ উত্তোলিত অর্থ থেকে সাউথইস্ট ব্যাংকের লা মেরিডিয়ান শাখায় ২৬ কোটি টাকা আমানত করা হয়েছিল। আর আমানত লিয়েন রেখে (বন্ধক) একমি পেস্টিসাইডের উদ্যোক্তাদের একটি র্স্বাসংশ্লিষ্ট প্রতিষ্ঠান শান্ত অ্যাগ্রো অ্যান্ড ট্রেডিং ফার্মের নামে ১৩ কোটি টাকা ঋণ নেয়া হয়।

এই ঋণ পরিশোধের ব্যর্থতায় ব্যাংক আমানত থেকে ঋণের টাকা সমন্বয় করে। একই ব্যাংক থেকে অবশিষ্ট আইপিও টাকার বিপরীতে ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক রেজাউর রহমান সিনহার ছেলে শরীফ সিনহার মালিকাধীন প্রতিষ্ঠান শরীফ ট্রেড সংস্থার নামে সাত কোটি টাকা ঋণ নেয়া হয়। এ শরীফ ট্রেড আবার একমি পেস্টিসাইডের বৈদ্যুতিক যন্ত্রপাতি এবং যন্ত্রাংশ সরবরাহকারী ও স্থাপনকারী হিসেবে চুক্তিবদ্ধ প্রতিষ্ঠান। এ প্রতিষ্ঠানও বৈদ্যুতিক স্থাপনার নামে দুই কোটি ৪৮ লাখ টাকা পরিশোধ করা হয়। অথচ আইপিও টাকা থেকে সাড়ে পাঁচ কোটি টাকা ন্যাশনাল ফাইন্যান্স থেকে নেয়া ঋণ পরিশোধের কথা থাকলেও পুরো ঋণ পরিশোধ করেনি। উল্টো খেলাপি হয়েছে। এমনকি মামলার আসামিও হয়েছে। যদিও আইপিওতে আসার আগে ঢাকা ব্যাংকের হিসাব বিবরণী জাতিয়াতির প্রমাণ পায় কমিশন। এছাড়া আইপিও টাকা থেকে ১০ কোটি টাকা দিয়ে নতুন কারখানা ভবন ও অন্যান্য স্থাপনা নির্মাণের জন্য পুঁজিবাজারে বির্তকিত বিনিয়োগকারী ও কারসাজিতে জড়িত বিশ্বজিৎ দাশকে ১০ কোটি টাকা দেয়া হয়। এরই মধ্য বিশ্বজিৎ দাশের মালিকানাধীন বন্ধন এন্টারপ্রাইজকে ২ কোটি ২৭ লাখ টাকা এবং কোয়ান্টাম ইন্টারন্যাশনালকে ৭ কোটি ৭৬ লাখ টাকা দেয়া হয়।

শেয়ার কারসাজির দায়ে ২০১৯ সালে ১২ সেপ্টেম্বর বিশ্বজিৎ দাশের বিও তহবিল উত্তোলন ও স্থানান্তর এবং লিংক অ্যাকাউন্টের মাধ্যমে শেয়ারগুলো স্থানান্তর বন্ধ করা হয়। বিশ্বজিৎ দাশ ও তার স্ত্রীর সব বিও লেনদেন স্থগিত করা হয়।

জানা গেছে, ওই ১০ কোটি ৩ লাখ টাকা ব্যয়ের হিসাব সঠিক সময়ে সঠিকভাবে নিরীক্ষিত আর্থিক প্রতিবেদন ও আইপিও ইউটিলাইজেশন রিপোর্টে প্রকাশ করা হয়নি। অথচ গত বছরে ২৪ জুন কমিশনের তদন্ত দল ভবন নির্মাণের কোনো কার্যক্রম দেখতে পায়নি। আইপিওর টাকায় নতুন ভবন নির্মাণের কথা বলা হলেও গত চার বছরে এ ভবন নির্মাণের দৃশ্যমান অগ্রগতি হয়নি। এমনকি পুরোনো ভবনকে রেস্ট হাউজ হিসাবে ব্যবহার করছেন পরিচালকরা। এ জায়গার কোম্পানির কোনো সাইনবোর্ডও পাওয়া যায়নি। একই জায়গায় ভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের উপস্থিতি দেখা যায়। এছাড়া কনজুমার ব্র্যান্ড ইউনিটের অস্তিত্ব পায়নি তদন্তকারী দল। এসব নিয়ে সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারী ও নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থাকে ভুল তথ্য দেয় একমি পেস্টিসাইড লিমিটেড। এমনকি অপকর্মের বৈধতার জন্য আইপিও ফান্ডের টাকা ব্যবহারে সময় বাড়ানোর জন্য ৫১ শতাংশ সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারী উপস্থিত দরকার হলে কোম্পানি তা পরিপালনে ব্যর্থ হয়। এর জন্য সাইবার প্রতারণায় আশ্রয় নেয় একমি পেস্টিসাইড। একই লগিং আইপি আইডি ব্যবহার করে এজেন্ডার পক্ষে ১২৭ জন বিনিয়োগকারীর অবৈধভাবে ভোট দেয়ার তথ্য প্রমাণ পায় কমিশন। এমন ২৮টি লগিং আইপি আইডি ব্যবহার করে এক হাজার ২৪৬ জন বিনিয়োগকারী ভুয়া উপস্থিত দেখানো হয়। এসব বিনিয়োগকারীর মোট শেয়ার সংখ্যা দেখানো হয় ৪ কোটি ৭ লাখ। ডিএসইর আইটি বিভাগ এর প্রমাণ পায়।

এত সব অনিয়ম করেও আইপিওর মাধ্যমে সংগৃহীত অর্থ সাড়ে তিন বছরের মধ্যেও ব্যবহার করতে পারেনি একমি পেস্টিসাইডস কর্তৃপক্ষ। কোম্পানিটির আইপিওতে সংগ্রহ করা ৩০ কোটি টাকার সম্পূর্ণ ব্যবহারের সময়সীমা ছিল ২০২৩ সালের ৩১ ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত। এখন পর্যন্ত আইপিওর অব্যবহৃত ফান্ড রয়েছে ৮ কোটি ১৪ লাখ টাকা বা ২৭ শতাংশ।

আরো জানা যায়, একমি পেস্টিসাইডের সহযোগী প্রতিষ্ঠান সিনহা সিকিউরিটিজ লিমিটেডের গ্রাহক হিসাবে ঘাটতি ও নানা অনিয়মের কারণে প্রতিষ্ঠানটির পরিচালক এবং ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক বা সিইওরে ব্যাংক হিসাব ও বিও হিসাব জব্দের নির্শে দিয়েছে বিএসইসি। পাশাপাশি বিদেশ ভ্রমণেও দেয়া হয়েছে নিষেধাজ্ঞা।

খেলাপি ঋণ বিষয়ে ন্যাশনাল ফাইন্যান্সে দায়িত্বশীল কর্মকর্তারা বলেন, একমি পেস্টিসাইডের নামে নেয়া ঋণ বর্তমানে খেলাপি হয়ে রয়েছে। এ ঋণ নেয়ার সময় একমি ল্যাবরেটরি নামে করপোরেট গ্যারান্টিও দেয়া হয়; যা পরে ভুয়া হিসাবে প্রমাণ পাওয়া যায়।

এই আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের দাবি, এ ঋণ আদায়ে বিএসইসি উচিত একমি ল্যাবরেটরি পরিচালক পারভীন আকতার খানমের ৭৫ লাখ শেয়ার বিক্রি করে ন্যাশনাল ফাইন্যান্সের পাওনা আদায়ে সুযোগ দেয়া। একইভাবে সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারী আইপিওর টাকা ঘাটতি এ টাকা থেকে পূরণের সুযোগ আছে। কারণ নাসির উর রহমান সিনহা তখন একমি ল্যাবের চেয়ারম্যান ছিলেন।

বেশ কয়েকজন বিনিয়োগকারী বলেন, গত সাড়ে তিন বছরেও একমি পেস্টিসাইড ২৬ কোটি টাকার সঠিক হিসাব দিতে পারেননি। উল্টো এসব টাকা নানা উপায়ে ও ভুয়া হিসাবের মাধ্যমে সরিয়ে নেন উদ্যোক্তারা। কারখানা ভবন, মেশিন, নতুন উৎপাদন ইউনিট চালু করার কথা ছিল। কমিশন এসব বিষয়ে অনেকটা নীরব। কমিশনের উচিত স্বাধীন বডি বা ট্রাস্টের মাধ্যমে কোম্পানি পরিচালনা করা। আর উদ্যোক্তারে সঠিক শাস্তি দিয়ে পুঁজিবাজারে সুশাসন নিশ্চিত করা। এছাড়া একমি পেস্টিসাইডের দায় ও দেনা সঠিক চিত্র প্রকাশ করা; যাতে বিনিয়োগকারী সঠিক সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে পারে।

এ বিষয়ে একমি পেস্টিসাইডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক রেজাউর রহমান সিনহার সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা হলে তিনি কোনো মন্তব্য করতে চাননি। প্রতিষ্ঠানটির প্রধান আর্থিক কর্মকর্তা সেলিম রেজা শেয়ার বিজকে বলেন, আমাদের প্রতিষ্ঠানে কমিশন তদন্তকারী ল এসেছিল। তারা বেশ কিছু বিষয় অনিয়ম পেয়েছে। আমরা এসব বিষয়ের উত্তর দিয়েছি। তবে টাকা ছাড়া প্লেসমেন্ট বরাদ্দ দেয়ার কোনো বিষয় নেই। আর আইপিও টাকা পুরোপুরি ব্যবহার শেষ করার জন্য আরো সময় লাগবে। আমরা সময় বাড়ানোর জন্য ইজিএম করব।

একমি পেস্টিসাইডসের অনুমোদিত মূলধন ১৫০ কোটি ও পরিশোধিত মূলধন ১৩৫ কোটি টাকা। বি-ক্যাটেগরি কোম্পানির উদ্যোক্তা পরিচালকদের ৩১ দশমিক ৮০ শতাংশ, প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক বিনিয়োগাকারীদের ১৪ দশমিক ৮৩ শতাংশ এবং সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারীদের হাতে ৫৩ দশমিক ৩৭ শতাংশ শেয়ার রয়েছে।

আইপিওর ৩০ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে একমি পেস্টিসাইডের বড় অনিয়ম

পুঁজিবাজারে তালিকাভুক্ত ওষুধ ও রসায়ন খাতের কোম্পানি লিবরা ইনফিউশনস লিমিটেড উৎপাদনে ফিরেছে। গত ১৭ জুলাই কোম্পানির কারখানায় উৎপাদন কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়েছে।

কোম্পানির প্রকাশিত এক মূল্য সংবেদনশীল তথ্যের বিজ্ঞপ্তি থেকে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে।

বিজ্ঞপ্তি অনুসারে, গত ১৩ জুলাই থেকে ১৬ জুলাই পর্যন্ত লিবরা ইনফিউশন লিমিটেডর উৎপাদন কার্যক্রম বন্ধ ছিল। তবে কী কারণে তা বন্ধ ছিল কোম্পানিটি সে সম্পর্কে কিছু জানায় নি। কোম্পানির পক্ষ থেকে সংশ্লিষ্ট সবার সহযোগিতা চেয়ে বলা হয়েছেম, সবার সহযোগিতা পেলে শিগগিরই কোম্পানিটি পূর্ণ উৎপাদনক্ষমতায় যেতে পারবে।

গত ১৪ জুলাই ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জের (ডিএসই) ওয়েবসাইটে প্রকাশিত সংবাদে জানা যায়, তাদের একটি টিম রাজধানীর মিরপুরের রূপনগরে অবস্থিত লিবরা ইনফিউশনসের প্রধান কার্যালয় ও কারখানা পরিদর্শন করে। এ সময় তারা কারখানার উৎপাদন বন্ধ দেখতে পায়।

আজ বুধবার (১৬ জুলাই) অনুষ্ঠিত কোম্পানিটির পরিচালনা পর্ষদের বৈঠকে অটো কোন মেশিন (Schlafhorst Autoconer 338) কেনার এই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে।

কোম্পানি সূত্রে এই তথ্য জানা গেছে।

সূত্র অনুসারে, পাহাড়তলি টেক্সটাইলস লিমিটেডের কাছ থেকে আলোচিত কোন মেশিন কেনা হবে। এর জন্য ব্যয় হবে ৪৮ লাখ টাকা। আলোচিত অটো কোন মেশিন কেনার পর কোম্পানির উৎপাদনক্ষমতা কতটা বাড়বে এবং তার রাজস্ব ও মুনাফায় কী প্রভাব পড়বে সে সম্পর্কে কোম্পানিটি কিছু জানায়নি।

আলহাজ্ব টেক্সটাইল মিলস লিমিটেড ১৯৮৩ সালে পুঁজিবাজারে তালিকাভুক্ত হয়। কোম্পানিটির পরিশোধিত মূলধন ২২ কোটি ২৯ লাখ টাকা। শেয়ার সংখ্যা ২ কোটি ২২ লাখ ৯৮ হাজার। মোট শেয়ারের ৩০ দশমিক ৬৫ শতাংশ কোম্পানির পরিচালক ও উদ্যোক্তা শেয়ারহোল্ডাররা ধারণ করছেন। প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক বিনিয়োগকারীদের হাতে আছে ১২ দশমিক ৭৫ শতাংশ শেয়ার। আর সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারীরা ৫৬ দশমিক ৫৯ শতাংশ ধারণ করছেন।

কোম্পানিটি ২০২৩-২৪ অর্থবছরে শেয়ার প্রতি ৭৮ পয়সা লোকসান দিয়েছে। আগের দুই অর্থবছরে যথাক্রমে ৯১ ও ২৬ পয়সা আয় করেছিল। সর্বশেষ ২০২২ সালে কোম্পানিটি শেয়ারহোল্ডারদের ৩ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশ দিয়েছিল।

Grameenphone, country’s largest telecom operator, reported that its profit dropped by 31% to Tk1,513 crore in the first half of this year.

Besides, the board of the company also decided to pay 110% cash dividend as interim dividend to its shareholders. To make the dividend available for shareholders, it set the record date for 13 August.

According to the financial statement published on its website, the earnings per share of the company stood at Tk11.21 in the January-June period.

Its revenue also fell by 3% to Tk7,938 crore compared to the previous year at the same time.

In the April-June quarter, Grameenphone’s profit rose by 2% to Tk879 crore.

Yasir Azman, chief executive officer of Grameenphone, said in a press release, “We have been navigating a challenging economic downturn since the second half of last year, that has put significant pressure on businesses across sectors, including telecom.

Despite the tough macro-economic environment, our strategic measures are starting to yield results. This quarter, robust cost discipline alongside QoQ revenue growth contributed to a 2% improvement in net profit year-on-year. 

“As part of our commitment to creating long-term value for our shareholders, we will be maintaining our dividend payouts to provide you with consistent and reliable returns. We are declaring interim dividend of Tk11 per share for the first half of 2025.”

Renata’s export horizon will expand further as it has secured approval of the European Union months after an audit by European auditors of one of its production units.

In a stock exchange filing on Wednesday, the listed drug maker disclosed that its Rajendrapur production unit had received European Union Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GMP) certification following a comprehensive audit by European authorities.

With that, Renata joins a small group of Bangladeshi pharma companies – Beximco Pharma, Incepta and Square Pharmaceutials — that have EU GMP facilities.

Company officials said the certification had opened a door to the EU countries for exports of Renata’s products.

Renata had already been exporting its products to the EU markets but on a limited scale in the absence of the certification. “Now, there is scope of getting approvals for a good number of our products by EU drug administrators,” said Md. Jubayer Alam, company secretary of Renata.

The EU GMP certification confirms that the facility is compliant with strict European standards in manufacturing medicines, covering everything from hygiene, production, quality control, and documentation.

It is a mandatory requirement to export drugs to EU countries, which means Renata can now start expanding exports to Europe, adding a new revenue stream and increasing foreign exchange earnings for Bangladesh.

Conforming to the EU GMP usually involves significant investments in facilities, processes, and training. It pushes a company to improve its overall operational standards.

The same unit in Rajendrapur had secured access to the UK market and received approval of the US FDA, the world health organisation and the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency.

The EU auditors conducted the audit in February and the company received the certificate of GMP Compliance on Tuesday.

The annual export volume of Renata is around $25 million at present.

“The company’s export volume will increase following our easy entry into the EU market,” Mr Alam said.

The certification by the EU authorities is also accepted by the countries of Latin America.

“So, it will facilitate our exports to the markets of Latin America,” Mr Alam added.

EU GMP is one of the most respected quality standards globally. It enhances Renata’s credibility with global partners, investors, and regulatory authorities.

Therefore, the access to the EU may lead to new partnerships, higher stock valuations, and greater trust of institutional investors.

Meanwhile, investors appeared enthusiastic about bidding up shares of Renata as the stock price moved up 0.39 per cent to Tk 490.20 per share by the end of the trading session on the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
