মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়ামের আয় ও মুনাফা দুটোই কমেছে

জ্বালানি খাতের তালিকাভুক্ত রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত কোম্পানি মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়াম লিমিটেডের চলতি ২০২৩-২৪ হিসাব বছরের প্রথম প্রান্তিকে (জুলাই-সেপ্টেম্বর) আগের হিসাব বছরের একই প্রান্তিকের তুলনায় আয় ও নিট মুনাফা দুটোই কমেছে। কোম্পানিটির অনিরীক্ষিত আর্থিক প্রতিবেদন থেকে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে।

প্রতিবেদন অনুসারে, চলতি ২০২৩-২৪ হিসাব বছরের প্রথম প্রান্তিকে মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়ামের আয় হয়েছে ৫৯ কোটি ২৯ লাখ টাকা, আগের হিসাব বছরের একই প্রান্তিকে যা ছিল ৬২ কোটি ৭৭ লাখ টাকা। সে হিসাবে কোম্পানিটির আয় কমেছে ৫ দশমিক ৫৪ শতাংশ। একই সঙ্গে আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরের প্রথম প্রান্তিকে কোম্পানিটির কর-পরবর্তী নিট মুনাফা হয়েছে ৯১ কোটি ১১ লাখ টাকা, আগের হিসাব বছরের একই প্রান্তিকে যা ছিল ৯৪ কোটি ১৩ লাখ টাকা। সে হিসাবে কোম্পানিটির নিট মুনাফা কমেছে ৩ দশমিক ২১ শতাংশ। ২০২৩-২৪ হিসাব বছরের আলোচ্য প্রান্তিকে কোম্পানিটির পরিচালন মুনাফা হয়েছে ২৯ কোটি ৩ লাখ টাকা, আগের হিসাব বছরের একই প্রান্তিকে যা ছিল ৩৪ কোটি ১০ লাখ টাকা।

তথ্যানুসারে, চলতি ২০২৩-২৪ হিসাব বছরের প্রথম প্রান্তিকে মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়ামের শেয়ারপ্রতি আয় (ইপিএস) হয়েছে ৮ টাকা ৪২ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরের একই প্রান্তিকে যা ছিল ৮ টাকা ৭০ পয়সা। গত ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর শেষে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি নিট সম্পদমূল্য (এনএভিপিএস) দাঁড়িয়েছে ২০৮ টাকা ৪৪ পয়সায়।

সর্বশেষ ৩০ জুন সমাপ্ত ২০২৩ হিসাব বছরে বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ১৬০ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশ দেয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে জ্বালানি খাতের কোম্পানিটি। নিরীক্ষিত আর্থিক প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী, সর্বশেষ সমাপ্ত হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির কর-পরবর্তী নিট মুনাফা বেড়েছে ৩৯ দশমিক ৬৮ শতাংশ। আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির নিট মুনাফা হয়েছে ৪৪২ কোটি ১৩ লাখ টাকা, আগের হিসাব বছরে যা ছিল ৩১৬ কোটি ৫৩ লাখ টাকা। সমাপ্ত ২০২৩ হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির ইপিএস হয়েছে ৪০ টাকা ৮৬ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরে যা ছিল ২৯ টাকা ২৫ পয়সা। গত ৩০ জুন শেষে কোম্পানিটির এনএভিপিএস দাঁড়িয়েছে ১৯৮ টাকা ৯৪ পয়সায়।

এদিকে ঘোষিত লভ্যাংশ ও অন্যান্য এজেন্ডায় বিনিয়োগকারীদের অনুমোদন নিতে আগামী বছরের ১৩ জানুয়ারি বেলা ১১টায় ডিজিটাল প্লাটফর্মে বার্ষিক সাধারণ সভা (এজিএম) আহ্বান করা হয়েছে। রেকর্ড ডেট নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে আগামী ১১ ডিসেম্বর।

সমাপ্ত ২০২২ হিসাব বছরে বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ১৫০ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশ করেছিল কোম্পানিটি। আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির ইপিএস হয়েছে ২৯ টাকা ২৫ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরে যা ছিল ২৬ টাকা ৭ পয়সা। গত বছরের ৩০ জুন শেষে কোম্পানিটির এনএভিপিএস দাঁড়িয়েছে ১৭৪ টাকা ১৫ পয়সায়।

২০২০-২১ হিসাব বছরেও বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ১৫০ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশের সুপারিশ করেছিল মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়ামের পর্ষদ।  আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির ইপিএস হয়েছে ২৬ টাকা ৭ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরে যা ছিল ২৮ টাকা ৪৫ পয়সা। ৩০ জুন ২০২১ শেষে কোম্পানিটির এনএভিপিএস দাঁড়িয়েছে ১৫৯ টাকা ৯০ পয়সায়, আগের হিসাব বছর শেষে যা ছিল ১৪৮ টাকা ২১ পয়সা।

২০০৭ সালে পুঁজিবাজারে তালিকাভুক্ত মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়ামের অনুমোদিত মূলধন ৪০০ কোটি ও পরিশোধিত মূলধন ১০৮ কোটি ২১ লাখ ৬০ হাজার টাকা। রিজার্ভে রয়েছে ১ হাজার ৭৭৬ কোটি ৩৮ লাখ টাকা। মোট শেয়ার সংখ্যা ১০ কোটি ৮২ লাখ ১৬ হাজার ১০৮। এর মধ্যে ৫৮ দশমিক ৬৭ শতাংশ শেয়ার রয়েছে সরকারের হাতে। এছাড়া ৩৩ দশমিক ৩১ শতাংশ শেয়ার প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক বিনিয়োগকারী, দশমিক শূন্য ৮ শতাংশ বিদেশী বিনিয়োগকারী ও বাকি ৭ দশমিক ৯৪ শতাংশ শেয়ার সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারীদের হাতে রয়েছে।

ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জে (ডিএসই) গতকাল মেঘনা পেট্রোলিয়াম শেয়ারের সর্বশেষ দর ছিল ২০৫ টাকা। গত এক বছরে শেয়ারটির দর ১৯৮ টাকা ৬০ থেকে ২১১ টাকা ৭০ পয়সার মধ্যে ওঠানামা করে।

Ring Shine Textiles in troubled waters as takeover deal is likely to go nowhere

The troubled Ring Shine Textiles reported a record loss in FY23 amid doubts hovering over the ownership transfer to another local textile company and five Singaporean entities, approved nearly a month ago.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) attached some conditions to the change of ownership, but company secretary Auniruddho Piaal said there had been little progress to that end.

One of the conditions requires Wise Star Textile to assure that it will regularise or arrange to regularise the entire bank liabilities of Ring Shine.

At present, bank loans of Ring Shine amount to Tk 5.50 billion, with Tk 800 million owed to the Dhaka Export Processing Zone in Savar.

Mr Piaal said he was skeptical about the ownership change as the process was yet to begin.

Meanwhile, a loss of Tk 1.25 billion in FY23 drove up the company’s cumulative losses to Tk 2.91 billion over the last three financial years.

The company said it had been hard hit by high finance expenses, foreign exchange losses and utility costs.

All financial indicators of the company, such as earnings per share, net operating cash flow per share, and net asset value per share were in the negative for the past three consecutive years.

Due to working capital shortage, the company could utilise only 22 per cent of its production capacity in FY23. There was also a decline in orders from foreign buyers.

Mr Piaal said they were getting fewer orders from buyers, as the company was about to change ownership.

As per the regulatory approval, Wise Star Textile and five Singaporean companies would acquire 190.03 million shares of Ring Shine, and the share transfer would be held outside the trading system at a negotiated price.

The company secretary said both sides were yet to come to a consensus for share transfer.

The proposed owners will also have to bear the existing liabilities, including bank loans and other dues of Ring Shine and take control of its assets.

Ring Shine has over Tk 10 billion worth of assets.

If the share transfer happens, the securities regulator will allow the release of the unused IPO fund for smooth operation of the company.

Ring Shine Textiles raised Tk 1.50 billion under the fixed price method in 2019 for acquisition of machinery & equipment and loan repayment.

Of the IPO fund, the company used Tk 535 million as of August 2020. After that the BSEC blocked the use of the remaining fund as it became aware of widespread malpractices committed by sponsor-directors.

Pre-IPO financial fraud

After the listing, anomalies in the balance sheet of the company came to light.

The company had raised its paid-up capital from Tk 99.50 million to Tk 2.85 billion by issuing pre-IPO shares, known as placement shares, to the then sponsors, directors, and 73 external local shareholders.

But 11 sponsor-directors and 33 external shareholders did not make any payment against the shares given to them.

Then the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, and Ring Shine saw the demand for its products fall sharply from foreign buyers.

Ring Shine mainly manufactures dyed yarn and gray and finished fleece fabrics of various qualities for both local and international markets.

Working capital shortfall, a decline in orders, and raw material shortage led to a shutdown of the factory in September 2020.

The BSEC restructured its board in January 2021, appointing seven independent directors to observe the company’s overall condition and make a plan on how to salvage the company out of its misery.

In June 2021, the factory went back into production but partially.

Meanwhile, the stock has remained stuck at the floor price of Tk 9.8 since September last year.

The company distributed 15 per cent stock dividend for FY19. For the last three fiscal years, the company declared no dividend.

Although the previous board recommended 1 per cent cash and 1 per cent stock dividend for FY20, the reconstituted board cancelled the decision owing to losses confirmed by a revaluation of its assets.

Jute Spinners losses doubled in FY23, as trial run fails

Jute Spinners’ annual loss almost doubled year-on-year to Tk 142.43 million in FY23, while accumulated losses of the last 11 years reached around Tk 900 million.

 

It has been producing nothing since 2016.

The company suffered a net loss of Tk 76.23 million in FY22. Liabilities shot up exceeding twice the value of assets of Tk 296.97 million as of FY22.

It started a trial run last year six years after it had been shut down, but failed to continue due to working capital shortage.

Jute Spinners was in profit in FY12 and declared 20 per cent cash dividend for the year. Since then, it declared no dividend for shareholders.

Despite the grim picture, the stock closed at Tk 344.60 on Tuesday, rising 0.18 per cent from the day before on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.

Its floor price is Tk 158.20 per share set by the stock market regulator.

The company has a history of hiding its financial information and rarely explains the reason for losses over the years.

Jute Spinners does not even have a website, although it is mandatory for a listed company to make financial data public on a regular basis.

In FY23, its net asset value per share was Tk 522.19 in the negative and net cash flow per share Tk 68.73 in the negative.

The company will be unable to pay off debts and liabilities even if it sells all assets.

A money suit case is going on against the company from state-owned Janata Bank. According to the auditor, the company has overstated assets and inventories.

Floor price left no room for mutual funds to perform in FY23

The mutual fund industry found itself in a tight spot in FY23, as the price movement restriction kept the market stagnant throughout the year giving little opportunity for capital gains.

Open-ended mutual funds that secured commendable double-digit returns a year before saw their earnings shrink drastically in FY23.

For example, Capitec Padma P.F. Shariah Unit Fund, the second best performer in terms of return in FY22, reported a loss of Tk 23.11 million in FY23. The trustee declared no dividend for the year.

The Shariah Unit Fund had gained a profit of Tk 66.93 million in FY22 and disbursed 12.5 per cent cash dividend to unitholders for the year.

Hasan Rahman, chairman of Capitec Asset Management that manages the fund, said lower capital gains and the mandatory requirement of 100 per cent provision against marketable investments, effective from last year, had dragged their income.

Capital gain is the profit derived from selling securities at higher prices than purchasing prices.

The Shariah Unit Fund’s income from share transactions tumbled 91 per cent year-on-year to Tk 3.71 million in FY23.

Capital gains accounted for 62 per cent of its total income in FY22, which was reduced to 20 per cent in FY23.

Mr Rahman said the fund manager had prioritised fundamentally-strong stocks for investment, considering long-term returns, but most of such stocks had remained stuck at floor prices.

In its annual financial report, Capitec showed huge unrealised losses — around Tk 5.90 million in GP, Tk 4.30 million in Beximco Sukuk, and Tk 4 million in Square Pharmaceuticals.

Though the open-ended fund achieved high capital income from Navana Pharmaceuticals, Nialco Alloys, Genex Infosys, and Bata Shoe, the gains could not offset losses in the big companies.

The Capitec chairman, however, is optimistic about a strong comeback and generating healthy return for investors in the future.

“Capitec is developing and expanding its business, ensuring integrity and compliance to provide the highest returns to investors,” said Mr Rahman.

The fund had investments in 26 stocks in FY23. Of them, it incurred capital losses in eight firms but made gains in 18 other stocks.

Dividend income also dropped to Tk 8.99 million in FY23 from Tk 10.49 million a year before. The dividend income dwindled as multinational companies refrained from providing good returns for the present dollar crisis has made it difficult to repatriate dividends abroad.

A large chunk of the fund’s dividend income came from Beximco Sukuk — Tk 2.07 million — in FY23, as was the case in FY22, and from Square Pharma — Tk 1.05 million.

Mandatory provision meant to protect investors also caused a dent in the yearly income.

Mr Rahman said they had maintained 40 to 50 per cent provision against marketable investments since it was not compulsory, but in FY23 100 per cent provision was necessary to comply with the changed rules.

Hence, provision against marketable investments soared 45 per cent year-on-year to Tk 30 million in FY23.

Presently, Capitec Asset Management operates three open-ended mutual funds and one close-ended fund, “Capitec Grameen Bank Growth Fund”.

The other open-ended mutual fund, Capitec Popular Life Unit Fund, which was the seventh top performer among open-ended MFs in FY22, saw an 86 per cent decline in profit to Tk 7.75 million in FY23.

The trustee board of the fund declared 9.50 per cent cash dividend for FY23, down from 15 per cent the year before.

The trend is similar for almost all open-end MFs. While some funds managed to limit profit erosion to some extent, 20 open-ended MFs did not pay any dividend due to losses in FY23.

Of the 37 close-ended MFs, only one managed to see a slight income growth in FY23 from its nominal income in FY22. The others reported 16-97 per cent year-on-year fall in income in FY23.

As a result, dividend payouts by most listed MFs were insignificant for FY23, while six MFs declared no dividend due to losses.

“Mutual funds’ returns mostly depend on how the stock market performs in a year,” said Mir Ariful Islam, managing director & CEO of Sandhani Asset Management.

The asset managers had little scope to make capital gains from the secondary market throughout the financial year, which affected their overall income, he added.

LankaBangla Gratuity Growth Fund, which was the top performer in FY22, saw 68 per cent year-on-year plunge in profit to Tk 7.58 million in FY23, as it navigated the bearish market.

The Growth Fund’s capital gains tumbled 59 per cent year-on-year to Tk 10.04 million in FY23, but dividend and interest incomes were as much as in FY22, according to its financial statements.

The fund’s capital gains from Olympic Industries, Krishibid Seed and IT Consultants were worth Tk 7.25 million; the highest, Tk 6.68 million was from Krishibid Seed.

৭০০ কোটি টাকার বন্ড ছাড়বে ফার্স্ট সিকিউরিটি ব্যাংক

পুঁজিবাজারে ব্যাংক খাতে তালিকাভুক্ত কোম্পানি ফার্স্ট সিকিউরিটি ইসলামী ব্যাংক লিমিটেডের পরিচালা পর্ষদ এফএসআইবি চতুর্থ সাব-অর্ডিনেটেড বন্ড ইস্যু করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। ব্যাংকটি ৭০০ কোটি টাকার বন্ড ইস্যু করে মূলধন বাড়াবে।

মঙ্গলবার (২৮ নভেম্বর) ঢাকা ও চট্টগ্রাম স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জ (ডিএসই-সিএসই) সূত্রে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে।

ফার্স্ট সিকিউরিটি ইসলামী ব্যাংক লিমিটেড বন্ডটি প্রাইভেট প্লেসমেন্টের মাধ্যমে ইস্যু করবে। এ বন্ড সম্পূর্ণ অবসায়নযোগ্য নন-কনভার্টেবল। বন্ডের মেয়াদ হবে ৭ বছর।

 

ফার্স্ট সিকিউরিটি ইসলামী ব্যাংক টায়ার-২ মূলধন বৃদ্ধিতে ব্যাসেল-৩ এর শর্ত পূরণের লক্ষ্যে এ বন্ড ইস্যু করবে। ব্যাংকটি পুঁজিবাজারের নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থা বাংলাদেশ সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশন (বিএসইসি) এবং বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সম্মতি নিয়ে বন্ড ইস্যু করবে।

সমাপ্ত ২০২২-২৩ হিসাব বছরে বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ঘোষিত ৫ শতাংশ স্টক লভ্যাংশে নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থা বাংলাদেশ সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশনের (বিএসইসি) সম্মতি পায়নি প্রকৌশল খাতের কোম্পানি জিপিএইচ ইস্পাত লিমিটেড। সম্মতি পাওয়া সাপেক্ষে নতুন করে রেকর্ড ডেট নির্ধারণ করবে কোম্পানিটি। স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জ সূত্রে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে।

 

তথ্য অনুসারে, গত ২৯ অক্টোবর ডিএসইতে সর্বশেষ সমাপ্ত ২০২২-২৩ হিসাব বছরের জন্য ৫ শতাংশ নগদ (উদ্যোক্তা পরিচালক বাদে) ও ৫ শতাংশ স্টক লভ্যাংশ ঘোষণা করেছিল জিপিএইচ ইস্পাত। এ-সংক্রান্ত রেকর্ড ডেট আজ। তবে স্টক লভ্যাংশে বিএসইসির অনুমোদন না পাওয়ায় রেকর্ড ডেট কেবল নগদ লভ্যাংশের ক্ষেত্রে কার্যকর হবে। 

৩০ জুন সমাপ্ত ২০২৩ হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি ‌আয় (ইপিএস) হয়েছে ৫৮ পয়সা, গত হিসাব বছরের একই সময়ে যা ছিল ৩ টাকা ৪২ পয়সা। গত ৩০ জুন শেষে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি নিট সম্পদমূল্য (এনএভিপিএস) দাঁড়িয়েছে ৫৩ টাকা ৮ পয়সায়, আগের হিসাব বছর শেষে যা ছিল ২৮ টাকা ৭৯ পয়সা। 

সমাপ্ত ২০২১-২২ হিসাব বছরে শেয়ারহোল্ডারদের জন্য মোট ১১ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশের সুপারিশ করেছে জিপিএইচ ইস্পাতের পর্ষদ। এর মধ্যে সাড়ে ৫ শতাংশ নগদ ও সাড়ে ৫ শতাংশ স্টক লভ্যাংশ। ২০২১-২২ হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি আয় হয়েছে ৩ টাকা ৪২ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরে যা ছিল ৪ টাকা ১৮ পয়সা।

জিপিএইচ ইস্পাতের ঋণমান দীর্ঘমেয়াদে ‘ডাবল এ’ ও স্বল্পমেয়াদে ‘এসটি-টু’। ৩০ জুন সমাপ্ত ২০২১-২২ হিসাব বছরের নিরীক্ষিত আর্থিক প্রতিবেদন এবং গত ১৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি পর্যন্ত কোম্পানিটির প্রাসঙ্গিক অন্যান্য গুণগত তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে এ প্রত্যয়ন করেছে আলফা ক্রেডিট রেটিং লিমিটেড (আলফারেটিং)।

২০১২ সালে পুঁজিবাজারে তালিকাভুক্ত এ কোম্পানির অনুমোদিত মূলধন ১ হাজার কোটি ও পরিশোধিত মূলধন ৪৬০ কোটি ৮৪ লাখ ১০ হাজার টাকা। রিজার্ভে রয়েছে ৬৮১ কোটি ২১ লাখ টাকা। মোট শেয়ার সংখ্যা ৪৬ কোটি ৮ লাখ ৪১ হাজার ৩৮৭। এর ৪৯ দশমিক ৬১ শতাংশ উদ্যোক্তা পরিচালক, ১৭ দশমিক ৮৩ শতাংশ প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক বিনিয়োগকারী ও বাকি ৩২ দশমিক ৫৬ শতাংশ শেয়ার সাধারণ বিনিয়োগকারীদের হাতে রয়েছে।

প্রতিবেদন অনুসারে, চলতি ২০২৩-২৪ হিসাব বছরের প্রথম প্রান্তিকে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি লোকসান হয়েছে ১ টাকা ৯৯ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরের একই প্রান্তিকে যা ছিল ৪৬ পয়সা। গত ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর শেষে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি নিট সম্পদমূল্য (এনএভিপিএস) দাঁড়িয়েছে ৪৫ টাকা ৮৬ পয়সায়।

 

সর্বশেষ সমাপ্ত ২০২৩ হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটি শেয়ারহোল্ডারদের লভ্যাংশ না দেয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি লোকসান হয়েছে ৫ টাকা ৭৭ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছর শেষে যা ছিল ১ টাকা ৫৭ পয়সা। গত ৩০ জুন শেষে কোম্পানিটির এনএভিপিএস দাঁড়িয়েছে ৪৭ টাকা ৮৫ পয়সায়। 

এদিকে ঘোষিত লভ্যাংশ ও অন্যান্য এজেন্ডায় বিনিয়োগকারীদের অনুমোদন নিতে আগামী ২১ ডিসেম্বর সকাল সাড়ে ১০টায় ডিজিটাল প্লাটফর্মে এজিএম আহ্বান করা হয়েছে। রেকর্ড ডেট নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ৬ ডিসেম্বর। 

সমাপ্ত ২০২১-২২ হিসাব বছরে শেয়ারহোল্ডারদের জন্য ২ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশের সুপারিশ করেছে গ্লোবাল হেভি কেমিক্যালসের পর্ষদ। আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি লোকসান হয়েছে ১ টাকা ৫৭ পয়সা। আগের হিসাব বছরে শেয়ারপ্রতি আয় ছিল ৩৪ পয়সা। গত বছরের ৩০ জুন শেষে কোম্পানিটির এনএভিপিএস দাঁড়ায় ৫৩ টাকা ৬৮ পয়সায়, আগের হিসাব বছর শেষে যা ছিল ৫৪ টাকা ৬৫ পয়সা। 

২০২০-২১ হিসাব বছরে উদ্যোক্তা পরিচালক বাদে অন্যান্য বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ৫ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশ দিয়েছে কোম্পানিটি। আলোচ্য হিসাব বছরে কোম্পানিটির ইপিএস হয়েছিল ৩৪ পয়সা। ২০১৯-২০ হিসাব বছরেও কোম্পানিটি ৫ শতাংশ নগদ লভ্যাংশ দিয়েছে।

Olympic COGS hits Tk1,968cr in FY23

Olympic Industries Ltd, a leading manufacturer of biscuits and confectionery items, witnessed an increase in the cost of goods sold (COGS) to Tk 1,968 crore or 76 per cent of total sales in FY23, which is a rise from 3-year average of 72 per cent.

Cost of goods sold (COGS) refers to the direct costs of producing the goods sold by a company. Olympic’s increase in COGS was exacerbated by the rapid devaluation of the taka, and higher commodity prices recorded in the last FY.

Furthermore, the publicly traded company is facing additional challenges in recovering margin due to the increase in energy prices, including a 51.6 per cent hike in octane, a 42.5 per cent jump in diesel, and a 22.78 per cent increase in natural gas, EBL Securities, the leading stock broker, said in an equity report on the company.

Despite YoY improvements in profitability margins in FY23, the company has not yet reached its optimal performance level, which typically exhibits gross profit margins of 30 per cent, operating profit margins of 16 per cent, and net profit margins of 12 per cent.

The average purchase prices of key raw materials in FY23, namely wheat flour, sugar, and palm oil, were higher by 33 per cent, 18 per cent, and 58 per cent, respectively, while compared to the prices of FY21, therefore impacting profit margins.

However, the falling commodity prices late in 2023 should ease cost pressures in upcoming fiscals, according to the RBL Securities note.

In FY23, the company demonstrated YoY growth of 20 per cent in revenue and 29 per cent in net profit. This growth was driven by the company’s ability to increase prices per stock-keeping unit in order to pass higher input costs onto consumers.

As a result, the company observed a rise in its profitability margins, with gross profit margin, operating profit margin, and net profit margin increasing to 23.8 per cent, 8.55 per cent, and 6.04 per cent, respectively, compared to 23 per cent, 7.2 per cent, and 5.6 per cent a year ago.

The expansion of the product portfolio beyond just biscuits has allowed the company to improve profitability, EBL Securities said.

Over the past three years, the company has made significant investments in various areas with a view to entering major segments of snacks such as instant noodles, dry cake, soft cake, chocolate-enrobed wafers, filled candies, toffees, toast, rusk, and savory snacks, in addition to its established presence in the biscuit industry.

Olympic has cumulatively invested Tk 63 crore, Tk 34 crore, Tk 14 crore, and Tk 45 crore in storage extension works, import of machines to facilitate product diversification, import of packaging machines, and land purchase and registration, respectively, in the last 3 years.

These investments are a clear indication of the company’s expansion strategy, as per the report.

In 2023, the company began commercial production at its new cupcake facility, which was installed in 2022 at a cost of Tk 6.49 crore. The facility has an annual production capacity of 79 million cupcakes and the potential to generate Tk7.60 crore in revenue.

Besides, on October 22, the company announced that it would import the 2nd High-Speed Instant Noodles Line from Japan at a cost of Tk 24.7 crore, to increase its production capacity from 8,316 to 19,008 tonnes per year.

The company, which went into operation in 1979, is the maker of popular biscuit brands such as Energy Plus, Tip, and Nutty.

The company is also a pioneer in exporting biscuits, exporting branded biscuits to at least 30 countries, including the USA, the UK, Greece, France, Cyprus, Portugal, Ghana, and Somalia.

Olympic got listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1984 and Chittagong Stock Exchange in 1996.

The company’s dividend payout ratio has risen to 77.09 per cent in FY23, up from a 3-year average of 59 per cent. This year, the company declared a 60 per cent cash dividend, marking the highest dividend yield in 15 years.

Olympic Industries shares closed at Tk 141.40 on the Dhaka bourse trading floor on Sunday.

টেকসই বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনায় লাফার্জহোলসিম ও বিজিএমইএর মধ্যে সমঝোতা স্মারক সই

লাফার্জহোলসিম বাংলাদেশ লিমিটেড (এলএইচবিএল) এবং বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রফতানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ) টেকসই বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনার জন্য একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক (এমওইউ) স্বাক্ষর করেছে।

রোববার (২৬ নভেম্বর) ঢাকার উত্তরায় বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে এ চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হয়।

 বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান এবং এলএইচবিএলের প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (সিইও) মোহাম্মদ ইকবাল চৌধুরী নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানের পক্ষে সমঝোতা স্মারকে স্বাক্ষর করেন।
এসময় জানানো হয়, সমঝোতা স্মারকের অধীনে বিজিএমইএ সদস্যভুক্ত প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোতে এলএইচবিএলের জিওসাইকেল প্রকল্পের পরিবেশবান্ধব বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা কর্মসূচীকে সহজলভ্য করার জন্য এলএইচবিএলকে সহযোগিতা প্রদান করবে।
হোলসিম গ্রুপের টেকসই বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা শাখা, জিওসাইকেল বিশ্বব্যাপী শিল্প, কৃষি এবং পৌরসভার বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিষেবা প্রদানে শীর্ষস্থানীয় প্রোভাডার। বর্তমানে জিওসাইকেল ৫০টিরও বেশি দেশে চালু রয়েছে। এটি তার প্রযুক্তিগত দক্ষতা, অত্যন্ত দক্ষ কর্মচারী, প্রমিত সিস্টেম এবং প্রক্রিয়া ব্যবহার করে কাস্টমাইজড, ভবিষ্যত ভিত্তিক বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা সমাধান দিয়ে থাকে।

পোশাক শিল্পে পরিষেবা দিতে এলএইচবিএল আগ্রহী জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, এই সমঝোতা স্মারক বিজিএমইএ এবং এলএইচবিএল উভয়ের জন্যই একটি মাইলফলক হবে।
চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠানে আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিজিএমইএর পরিচালক ব্যারিস্টার ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান, এলএইচবিএলের চিফ কর্পোরেট অ্যাফেয়ার্স অফিসার আসিফ ভূঁইয়া, জিওসাইকেলের প্রধান কৌশিক মুখার্জি প্রমুখ।

আলোচিত এমারেল্ড অয়েল এখন দরপতনের ধারায়

চলতি বছর অস্বাভাবিক হারে দর বৃদ্ধি পাওয়া এমারেল্ড অয়েলের শেয়ার এখন দরপতনের ধারায়। গত সাড়ে চার মাসে শেয়ারটির দর ১০০ টাকার ওপর কমেছে। রােববার সপ্তাহের প্রথম কার্যদিবসে শেয়ারটি দিনের সর্বোচ্চ দর হারিয়েছে। দর  নেমেছে ৮৮ টাকায় এবং ডিএসইতে  দরপতনের শীর্ষে।

মালিকানা বদল হচ্ছে, চালু হচ্ছে বন্ধ কোম্পানি– এমন খবরে গত এপ্রিল থেকে এমারেল্ড অয়েলের শেয়ারদর বাড়তে থাকে। দর বৃদ্ধির ধারা শুরুর আগে শেয়ারটির দর ছিল ৩২ টাকা। এর পর মাত্র তিন মাসে ছয় গুণ বেড়ে গত ১০ জুলাই সর্বোচ্চ ১৮৮ টাকা ৮০ পয়সায় ওঠে। এর পর শুরু হয় দরপতন। আগস্টজুড়ে শেয়ারটির দর স্থিতিশীল থাকলেও সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে যে দরপতন শুরু হয়, তা থামছে না। শুধু এমারেল্ড অয়েল নয়, গতকাল দরপতনের দ্বিতীয় সর্বোচ্চ অবস্থানে ছিল কােহিনূর কেমিক্যাল। এক দিনে সাড়ে ৪৩ টাকা বা সাড়ে ৯ শতাংশের বেশি দর হারিয়ে ৪০৭ টাকা ৬০ পয়সায় নেমেছে। ১৬ থেকে ২৫ অক্টোবর পর্যন্ত মাত্র সাত কার্যদিবসে শেয়ারটির দর ৪৪৯ টাকা থেকে ৫৬৪ টাকায় উঠেছিল। এর পর থেকে  দরপতন চলছে। 

 

প্রধান শেয়ারবাজার ডিএসইতে দরপতনের তালিকায় এর পরের অবস্থানে ছিল জিল বাংলা সুগার মিলস, খুলনা প্রিন্টিং, ফু-ওয়াং সিরামিক, ঢাকা ডাইং, ইয়াকিন পলিমার, ইভিন্স টেপটাইল, রূপালী লাইফ ইন্স্যুরেন্স ও শ্যামপুর সুগার মিলস। এসব শেয়ারের দর ৫ থেকে ৯ শতাংশ পর্যন্ত কমেছে। সব শেয়ারই রুগ্‌ণ কোম্পানির এবং সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে এগুলোর উল্লেখযোগ্য হারে দর বেড়েছিল। এদিকে গতকাল অন্য কয়েকটি রুগ্‌ণ কোম্পানির দর বেড়েছে। যেমন রুগ্‌ণ জিকিউ বলপেনের দর প্রায় ১০ শতাংশ বেড়ে ১৪৩ টাকা ছাড়িয়েছে। গতকাল এ শেয়ার সর্বোচ্চ যতটুকু দর বাড়তে পারত, ততটাই বেড়েছে। মাত্র তিন কার্যদিবস আগে এ শেয়ার ১১৩ টাকায় কেনাবেচা হয়। 

দর বৃদ্ধির পরের অবস্থানে থাকা ডমিনেজ স্টিলের দর প্রায় ১০ শতাংশ, জেনারেশন নেক্সট ও আরএসআরএম স্টিলের দর পৌনে ১০ শতাংশ এবং  সেন্ট্রাল ফার্মার দর সাড়ে ৯ শতাংশ হারে বেড়েছে। এর পরের অবস্থানে থাকা আফতাব অটোমোবাইলস এবং জেমিনি সি ফুডসের দর বেড়েছে সাড়ে ৭ শতাংশ। এ ছাড়া লিবরা ইনফিউশনস সোয়া ৬ শতাংশ এবং ইউনিয়ন ক্যাপিটাল ৫ শতাংশ দর বেড়েছে।
বিভিন্ন ব্রোকারেজ হাউসের কর্মকর্তারা জানান,  কয়েক সপ্তাহ ধরে শেয়ারবাজার যে মন্দ শেয়ারে ভর করে ছিল, গতকালও তার কোনো পরিবর্তন ছিল না। সার্বিকভাবে ডিএসইতে দর হারানো শেয়ার সংখ্যা বেশি ছিল। লেনদেন হওয়া ৩২৭ কোম্পানির শেয়ারের মধ্যে ৫৩টির দর বেড়েছে, কমেছে ৯৩টির এবং অপরিবর্তিত ছিল ১৮১টির দর। ক্রেতার অভাবে ৬৫টির কোনো লেনদেন হয়নি। স্বাস্থ্যমন্ত্রী জাহিদ মালেক ও তাঁর পরিবারের সদস্যরা সানলাইফ ইন্স্যুরেন্সে তাদের সব শেয়ার ব্লক মার্কেটে মোট ৬৭ কোটি টাকায় বিক্রি করেছেন। এ লেনদেনসহ দিনব্যাপী মোট ৫৪৯ কোটি টাকার শেয়ার কেনাবেচা হয়েছে।
